Everything is now complete

I've now completed all the work i set out to do with a few changes and we have created a presentation ready to present tomorrow. Overall the process has took a while but were finally at the stages of completion in our FMP

Friday, 27 May 2011

Comments please

I have received more page views than I expected from an FMP blog (albeit nearly all are from pictures I embed). I would like comments on some of the posts from other people, also considering I can draw anatomy a little better than the digital final pieces, more specifically for females.

Update of Work

Basically got everything for scanning and this is because i've gone over everything in a black fine pen. I should be scanning in for colour and general presentation base stuff
My black fined character designs in action and steadfast
Shaded Manga Characters
Weapon Design
So this should be a good step to completeing my colouring in the next 2 weeks.
Unfortunate thing is the fact that im away for the next 2 weeks so there maybe a few distractions but as long as i stay dedicated i think i could do it

Motion graphics feedback

Technical qualities
Appropriate screen dimensions, frame rate, length of sequence, safe areas
The frame rate is very smooth and the length of the sequence is at a good enough length to take in all the detail.

Movement
Is the speed (pace) of the animation appropriate? Do you have time to read text, understand the message being conveyed? Is the timing appropriate? Is there a rhythm to the movement of graphics/text?
Very simple movement, able to read the text very easily and the overall timing is nicely done.

Typography
How many different fonts can you spot?  What does the style/s suggest?
Is it appropriate? Is the message readable?
1 type of font is used and is readable, the style suggest some sort of Sci-fi theme which is very suitable to the crater’s intended idea.

Graphics
What graphics have been used and do you think they are appropriate?
A smoke effect has been used and done so to help showcase the action taking place in the animation very well.

Colour Scheme
What colours have been used? Colour scheme-monochromatic, complementary, analogous etc. Do they convey the right message or mood?
Dark colour scheme is used to the best effect to help convey a more serious tone.

Layout
Are the type and graphics well balanced? Too cluttered or is there good use of white space?
The graphic and text are nicely balanced without over taking each other. As a viewer I was able to see each part of the graphic easily without any trouble.

Visual effects
Describe the visual effects and their contribution to the overall effectiveness of the piece-compositing, chroma keying, masking, light rays, explosions etc
The smoke effect which was used to convey the impact of the graphic helped the overall effectiveness of the impact. This helps make things more interesting to look at and eye catching.

Use of audio
Has audio been included? How appropriate is the audio to the theme of the product?
N/A at the moment

Effective communication
Is the genre of the game effectively conveyed? Conventional/original treatment? Fit for intended purpose?
The theme of a military based game is show very strongly and fits the intended purpose very well.

Suggestions for improvements-be specific

The white flash near the end should really be the end of the animation, flashing to a white screen can then help lead onto another scene easily and effectively.

Final week of production

Checklist:

  • Complete primary colourings
  • Fill in the gaps between the colours
  • Cel shading
  • A3 printout (A4 if A3 isn't possible)

Update Of Work

I've basically finished all my drawings now and all I need to do is black line over and scan them in and then colour them at the end. Overall i'm on good progress to finishing my FMP and handing it in for the due date fo my time. Making good progress I think and eventhough i'm no way near what id say i'd do at the beginnning with my proposal

Update of Work

Completed the 4 stand off character designs which I am very impresed with and I'm happy that now all I have to do is ceate the 4 actions poses and the box art as long as I have both pieces of work from me and tom. Evevnthough we have cut a lot off through out the project because of time which we didnt expect, i think this quite a good place for me to be and up to now i am up to date with my work

Update of Work

Update:
I know I have to create my 8 designs of the characters (2 per person, 1 standing with weapon and 1 action pose). I have created 3 of my stand still designs. One for Helena,Charlie and Vixen.

I have took pictures so I can note down the anatomy of my characters and will take more to help out with the anatomy of my character when they are in action pose.

Going generally quite well and I do think I will finish the designs and colouring in the next 3 weeks I hope as I do have other assignments to complete at the same time so I need to certainly need to plan my time well as as I need to outline, scan,fix and colour my pictures.

But I do think that in the next 3 weeks I will complete it, hopefully before the FMP presentation

PDM motion graphics

Since I'm creating a PDM motion graphics logo, I could work on a Dynasty logo too. I was already thinking of an alpha masked flame effect into vision.
But the PDM animation will be the PDM emblem flying from above (top down view), creating a smoke impact, shaking the camera and then a glow wipe across the screen.

Progress Report

Up to know I think the work is actually going pretty well and im just designing the characters again so I can show the progress I've made in my character facial designs

Dead cut!

4 weeks remaining!
I suggest we cut some of our unstarted plans. For example environments will take too long to start and finish with evaluations whilst finishing character poses, box art, character poses, etc.

Monday, 18 April 2011

End of April checklist

  • Finish Research folder
  • Character drawings
  • Character pose drawings
  • Weapon designs

Help in Creating Foots

I thought this would be helpful as feet are one of the hardest things to draw when creating a character. These are the different perspectives in a sense.

Link to example of submission

http://www.dominancewar.com/spotlights/mini_2011/3d_bogdan/index.html

Dominance War Comp.

Everything for this challenge must be made from scratch. No pre-existing ideas, sketches, drawings, base meshes, or pre-made models.
Keep gore and nudity to a decent level please! Don’t get DW banned in various countries!
You can join any team. Example, if you participated with team leewiART.com in the pre-DW challenge, you can join CGSociety.org for Rise of Gods.
If you join two or three categories, they must all belong to the same team. Example, if you join 3dtotal for 3d character art, you cannot make a 2d or animation entry for team GameArtisans.
Anyone may join Dominance War V - The Rise of Gods.
This is a wip (work in progress) based challenge. Posting your w.i.p art in your chosen forum is ABSOLUTLY MANDATORY. Artists who show no work till the end may be disqualified.
You can use any 3d, 2d, or animation software package in the world to create your entry. You can also use traditional mediums like pencil, paper, paint, etc.
Only 1 entry per person per category (3d Character, Concept Art, Character Animation). Do not try to create multiple entries with different user names.
No Teams, groups or collaborations. Everything must be made by 1 single person.
Artists wishing to enter both 3d and concept art categories, must create a new idea for each entry. Example, if you make a War God for the 3d category, do not make another similar God of War for the concept art category.
Final submissions are final. Make sure you are happy with your image before you submit it into the system.
Judging: Public voting to find each team's best entries, starts May 16th and will continue for 7 days to end on May 23rd. After each team's best are found, they will be gathered together into a single pool, and professional judges will then find this year's Dominance War V World Champions.
Soft Deadline: Public voting begins midnight May 16th - Eastern Time. Artists may hand in submissions many days later, but the more late you are, the less voters will see and vote for your entry. Remember, each unique voter is only able to vote once per team per category. If you lose all the intense and curious initial voters in the first two days, it's almost impossible to place in the final standings. Finish early or on time, or else...
Public Voting ends May 23rd.

Concept Art Entry Guidelines

Create and design a Mighty God.
Important: You must include your team's logo emblem, OR colors, OR both, on your character's skin, gear, clothing or weapons. If logo is placed on character, it must be visible on your character. If colors, your character should posses obvious clothing color tones of your chosen team. For logos and colors, visit - Here
If multiple characters are created in your main colored illustration, please place clear emphasis on who is your main character. Additionally, Don't create a massive spell effect and place your main character in the distant background as a tiny dot.

Concept Art Submission Guidelines

Update

I have finally finished off the designs for each character and I can know work on more detailed views of the characters. I'm going to do at least 1-2 poses for each character.

1) 1 will be for the box art
2) 1 will be for general feel of the character in a whole

Need to finish of Sharke and evaluate him in my own opinion and get the teachers comments on the overall creation of him

New(er) elemental circle

The common memory jogs, which help to remind in what order the phases are:
  • Wood feeds Fire;
  • Fire creates Earth (ash);
  • Earth bears Metal;
  • Metal carries Water (as in a bucket or tap, or water condenses on metal);
  • Water nourishes Wood.
  • Wood absorbs Water;
  • Water rusts Metal;
  • Metal breaks up Earth;
  • Earth smothers Fire;
  • Fire burns Wood.
  • Wood parts Earth (such as roots; or, Trees can prevent soil erosion);
  • Earth absorbs (or muddies) Water (or Earth dam control the water);
  • Water quenches Fire;
  • Fire melts Metal;
  • Metal chops Wood.
Basically:
Wood -> Water
Wood -> Earth
Water -> Fire
Water -> Metal
Metal -> Earth
Metal -> Wood
Earth -> Water
Earth -> Fire
Fire -> Wood
Fire -> Metal

New elemental chart

Seems good, dunno about ICE -> Wind

Also, Ice beats Water, Wind beats Fire, Earth beats Ice, Thunder beats Wind, Water beats Earth, Fire beats Thunder.
Similar to how Ice beats Wind, Fire beating Thunder doesn't really make direct sense.
I guess Fire is unaffected by the heat from lightning making Fire be the stronger element in the battle (a pyrokinetic cannot be burnt by the lightning, but an electrokinetic can be burnt by fire).
Ice vs Wind could be Ice vs birds as cold weather is powerful enough to force birds into migration.

Week Work

Liam:
I'm hoping to start my 4th character this week and hopefully get most of him done before the end of the weka dnt hen finishing him off by the end of next week.
I have to re-submit work next week as part of assessment week so I will be working on that throughout the time I have so my time will be split between re-submission of assignments and the project

Week's Work

This week has been an unfortunate dismay due to the fact that we both had an interview and portfolio showing with one of our University Choices so we were focusing on that at this point. We will get back on to schedule from next week.

For me, I do have 3 assignments to hand in 2 weeks from now onso I will have to work on them so my fmp time will go down again but i will work on it at home and throughout the week at the same time. I'm hoping to finish all my 4 main characters 2 weeks from now so I can start experimenting with colour and start environmental and weapon designs.

Help with Drawing Eyes

Thought i'd post this to help us draw some eyes tom. It might be a good idea if you do some drawings of these and copy them on a piece of paper. First it shows us learning and second help overall in the end

Life Drawing Class

Today me and Tom will be attending a Life Drawing Class in Colleg. I hope this will help me and Tom with Anatomical Studies. This will defnitely help with me as I'm quite bad at drawing poses and if I can have some light experience with this, I might have abetter understanding of hading and position of lines in my drawings.

Teacher Assistance

I think from today onwards I think it would be a good idea if me and Tom ask our teacher Craig, to help with design evaluations, where he'll see what he think has gone well. Hopefully Craig will say yes and at the end of every lesson we have with Craig, he will write his own thoughts on what we've done up to now

Manga Exploration Decision

We've decided as a pair now that when we have made the character designs, we will do different types of manga for the character such as chibi manga, detailed chaarcter design and any other manga genres we can comment on.

Not really editing

Due to the fact that Idont edit the blog with my comments much, I think its time to start doing it. The reason I dont edit the blog a lot is because I keep a personal record of what i'm doing in my sketchbook by evaluating everything that I do.

Anyway up to now, I have completed creating Helena & Charlie...

Evaluating myself on them as I have in my sketchbook, I improved from drawing Helena to Charlie as Helena had more a manga look then Charlie did. If I keep up with this work, then I think i'll create a successful group of characters for the storyline.

I think i'm going to use the blog to keep evaluating myself, everytime i've finished a stage in my FMP. Due to the fact that I completed this in my sketchbook, so this is what i'm hoping to do.

3D modelling

I've started to work on helmets in 3Ds max for a portfolio addition to the FMP. I will design some helmets, model some of them, use photoshop to separately texture the helmet instead of using actual textures to save time.

Continuation...

I tested some of my characters in a semi-side on facial pose. For perspective and character accuracy as well as a different style.
Using Mark Crilley's advice and sketching tutorial - I managed to develope some artwork of Renoa and Mist.

Research folder front sheet

M1 comments:
There is really a lot of research and analysis in the folder however you it has not come into the report and is not cross referenced to support your work. Cross reference your bibliography with your research work. The range of resources needs to be shown ie good internet research but no collation of primary research. Each section needs summarising and bringing into your report.

M2 comments:
You need to add more depth to your report. Use this to help bring everything in your research folder back together. You have made a good start and have got a brief conclusion but the report does not do your research folder justice.

M3 comments:
Evidence of grammar and spell checker have not been shown which is in the mark scheme, also include evidence of proof reading your work. You can also provide more evidence for this when we come to completing the presentation work.

Presentation work:
Present a structured and detailed media production report which conveys information and explains conclusions with clarity.

Research folder grade... 0

  • Describe the reason for the initial idea.
  • Relate the research to the rest of the document.
  • Write out the problems that I may have came across.
  • Label sections.
  • Summarise the main issues you will be taking forward to your project.
  • Fix paragraphing and styling with Dynasty warriors research.
  • Cross-reference pictures.
  • Fix styling with FFXIII research.
